College football legends don’t really come and go. They grow on us, so to speak, over time. They become something we treasure.
But how many of you have heard of some of the past college football players who played such a part in your lives? Who were they?
We all know about the big names like John Elway, Herschel Walker, Vince Young, Joe Montana, and others. But there were also lesser known players who helped shape our lives for the better. Some are still going strong today.
Tom Dickinson, for example, was a running back for the Miami Hurricanes. He made his first start against LSU. The game ended with LSU leading 28-20, but Miami were in control when it needed it most. The Hurricanes would go on to beat LSU in their next two games.
Great Team Leader
Tom Dickinson’s impact on his teammates is still talked about. He would become a great team leader, and he would often get his way on the field. He would help the team win games.
Another player that deserves a mention as a legend is Bill Romanowski. He played safety at Notre Dame for the Fighting Irish. He is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.
There are many more, but the ones listed above are my favorites. Each of these players made a difference in someone else’s life. You could say they changed their lives forever. They became legends.
These people are gone now, but their legacy lives on. You can still hear their voices from college to the NFL, to the high school level, and even to places like Japan and South America. There is still a chance for them to make a difference.
You probably think that all players on teams today are football stars. In some ways that is true. However, if you take a little closer look at some of the older players, you will find some college legends that are not so well known.
These legends are out there, just waiting to be told. They aren’t always recognized by most fans because they didn’t play as hard or play as long as the current stars. If you know where to look, you can find a lot of those players today. They are still influencing people.
If you haven’t seen any famous players on your favorite teams, you might want to consider going to a college game. It’s a great way to get up close and personal with them. You can meet these old school players in person.
You might see some players that you think you don’t recognize. You might be surprised by what you learn. You might even find one or two players that can change the way you think.
Old School Players
Just remember to never forget that the old school players are still going to be around, and that you can learn about them today. You never know what you might find in the stands.
You might also hear some of your favorite players. They might not talk to you, but you will see them every now and then at a game. Chances are they have something good to tell you about their careers.
College football legends have played a huge part in many teams’ successes. The NFL, especially, has many of them in it thanks to the old school players.
College legends don’t always come to the games, but they do attend many of them. It is their job to talk to people about the old days and give the fans something new to remember.
College football legends are everywhere. Some fans get them mixed up with the current players, but they are two separate things. There is no need to worry.
